The HOHE Award celebrates the best of Ethiopian literature and highlights just some of the many good books with broad appeal published in Ethiopia during the past year. The recent awards ceremony held at the National Theater in August was a great success; Best Book of the Year was awarded to the following authors in all three categories!

1. Children’s Book Award: “Yebeza Buchil” by Asres Bekele

2. Poetry Award: “Fird ena Erd” by Abere Ayalew

3. Fiction Award:  “Yesinibit Kelemat” by Adam Retta

The aim of the award is to put the spotlight on the creativity and diverse wealth of Ethiopia’s contemporary literature within the field of fiction and non-fiction to promote the circulation of literature within the country and to foster and encourage greater interest in literary works. In this way, we will try to promote literary works to be developed that will serve as supplementary reading material for children.
