Shir-Shir is an innovative & interactive public Architectural and Art event slated to be held at Ethio–Cuba Friendship Park on Sunday 20th May 2018.

Shir-Shir is the brainchild of the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC), Chair of Architecture and Design II social studio and is organized by Creative Futures Programme’s Event Management Trainees Nahom Tsegaye and Biniam Hailu in collaboration with Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, and the Association of Ethiopian Architects.

This deserving event comes to you with the support of City Government of Addis Ababa: Culture and Tourism Bureau and Beautification, Park and Cemetery Development Agency as well as sponsorship by Tarara Coffee.

The events’ focus is “to inspire, create awareness and engage non-architects/artists in creative activities. In addition it is also to raise awareness about the practice and relevance of architecture, art in public spaces as a social exchange platform”

In addition to merely staging a one-day event to engage the general public they plan to collect qualitative and quantitative feedback about Addis Ababa’s Architectural heritage and use of public spaces. In exposing new and/or different audiences to the practice of architecture, they hope to create a platform for knowledge and experience sharing between architects, artists and the general public and particularly the young citizens of Addis Ababa.

This one day event (hopefully the first in a series of such events!) will encourage Addis Ababa’s citizens, young and old, to engage with Architecture and urban planning challenges, as well as art in public spaces in a fun and accessible setting.

A day of music and poetry in order to have a much needed dialogue on Art and Architecture of public spaces with the citizens of Addis is an event our readers should participate in…What’s Out! says see you there!
